狀況報告
There are several vertical age cracks to the head and a circa 9cm., horizontal crack with associated minor losses running across the forehead, a circa 3cm., chip to the lower right side of the right ear (as viewed in the catalogue), general loss of pigment and minor chips and losses around the shoulders.

Height 39 cm, 15¼ in.

狀況報告
The head has a repaired diagonal break running from the right side of the head, where the ear would have been, across the face to the top left side of the cap with two circa 1.5cm., areas of associated loss. A circa 20x10cm., section of loss to the back of the head. Casting holes to the right side of the cap (1cm., diam., and 1.5 x 1.5cm). Loss to a circa 16 x 6 cm,., section of the neck. Two circa 5x3cm., areas of loss to the left side of the cap, possibly original to casting.

The face of a perfect oval is surmounted by a high bun topped with a high ornate crown housing an image of Buddha. The encrusted eyes are lowered and the face framed by long fleshy ear lobes.
Height: 38 cm. (15 in.), Wooden base

Acquired from a Parisian dealer by the father of the present owner, who was an important Chinese porcelain collector in Belgium, circa 1930.

Appraised by Michel Beurdeley, Paris, in 1979 (by repute).

出版《世界古美术大展览会》，山中商会及东京美术俱乐部，日本美术协会，东京，1932年，编号353 来源1. 日本山中商会，东京，1932年2. 日本私人收藏，自始家族传承3. 香港苏富比，2015年4月5日，编号2930展览《世界古美术大展览会》，山中商会及东京美术俱乐部，日本美术协会，东京，1932年此菩萨头像静美祥和，脸相饱满，眉目端庄, 眉如弯月，双目半闭，凝神若思，鼻梁笔挺，丰唇紧合略带笑意，两耳垂肩，发髻雕琢细腻入微，感染人心，现佛说的美臻善，整体给观者以端庄可亲和敬畏之感。菩萨不忍凡间苦难，愿留尘世超渡众生。眼半张，嘴半笑，观者所立之处不同，其相亦略有不同，灵活精准，栩栩如生，足见艺匠虔诚用心。菩萨在古印度佛教中为男子形象，流传到中国后逐渐转变为温柔、慈祥的女性形象。佛教自从印度传入，历经朝代无数，菩萨佛相异国风韵已淡，更添熟识之感，尤显亲切。相类唐代佛教头像，可见喜仁龙，《Chinese Sculpture： From the Fifth to the Fourteenth Century》，纽约，1925年，图版466A，或科隆东亚艺术博物馆藏品，录于 B. von Gunhild Gabbert，《Buddhistische Plastik aus China und Japan》，Wiesbaden，1972年，图版89。另可参考 R.L. dArgence，《Chinese, Korean and Japanese Sculpture in the Avery Brundage Collection》，三藩市，1974年，图版104 及106，以及纽约苏富比1998年3月24日，编号502。
