The bowl has deep, rounded sides that rise to a slightly flared rim and is decorated on the exterior with four medallions of ‘antiques’ surrounded by foliate sprays on a ruby sgraffiato ground. The interior is decorated in underglaze blue with a stylized flower head below four ribbon-tied lanterns.

The bowl is finely enameled on the exterior with four medallions of vases of flowers, bowls of fruit and various auspicious objects surrounded by ruyi-linked foliate sprays on a lemon-yellow ground. A large medallion enclosing a scene of blossoming plants is in the center of the interior below a band of green foliate scroll bearing alternating lotus and peony flowers in iron red.

This bowl depicts the legendary romance between the celestial weaver girl Zhi Nu, whose role was to weave the clouds, and a mortal cowherd, Niu Land. In their infatuation with each other they neglected their duties, thus drawing the anger of the Queen of Heaven, who drew a line across the sky with her hairpin, which became the Milky Way, and thus separated the two lovers from each other forever. Their anguish was so great that the King of Heaven took pity on them and granted them one visit once a year, on the seventh day of the seventh month.

Catalogue note
Bowls of this design, finely enamelled with medallions enclosing lanterns on an ornately decorated ruby ground, were pioneered in the Qianlong period and grew in popularity in the succeeding Jiaqing and Daoguang reigns. The sophistication of bowls of this type is achieved through the intricate sgraffiato ground and the fusion of Western painting techniques with traditional Chinese motifs. The flowers adorning the ruby ground, masterfully rendered in various tones to create a naturalistic effect, reveal the influence of Jesuit painters at court, while the medallions contain auspicious lanterns, a motif that forms a homonym for ‘good harvest’ (fengdeng). These medallions resemble windows and create a sense of three-dimensionality, an effect that is reinforced through the textured and almost brocade-like tactility of the sgraffiato technique, a complicated and laborious method of needle-point etching.

Bowls of this type are more commonly known with a Daoguang seal mark and of the period; for example, see one in the Palace Museum, Beijing, illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum. The exterior of the bowl is finely decorated with four medallions depicting the ‘Lanterns of Abundance’, feng deng, separated by colourful stylised floral sprays reserved on a ruby ground incised with feathery scrolling. The interior is delicately painted in shades of cobalt blue with a central flower head encircled by lanterns.

A very similar bowl was included in the Min Chiu Society exhibition Splendour of the Qing Dynasty, illustrated in the Catalogue, Hong Kong, 1992, p. 327, no. 194. Another example from the collection of S. K. Kwan was included in the exhibition, Joined Colors, Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, Smithsonian Institution, Washington D.C., 1993, catalogue no. 58. A further example is illustrated by Geng Baochang, Ming Qing Ciqi Jianding, Hong Kong, 1993, pl. 507. Finally also see a similar bowl in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, illustrated by S. DAOGUANG SIX-CHARACTER SEAL MARK IN UNDERGLAZE-BLUE AND OF THE PERIOD (1821-1850)
The bowl has rounded sides with a straight foot and rising to a slightly everted rim. The exterior is well enamelled with four gilt-bordered roundels painted with landscapes of the four seasons, one in grisaille, two in sepia tones and the last in famille-rose enamels. Each roundel is separated by stylised lotus sprigs against a deep ruby-pink sgraffito ground. The interior is centred with a radiating stylised eight-point flower-head.

「大清道光年制」六字三行篆书款

拍品撇口，深腹，圈足，形制优美隽秀，胎釉轻薄莹润，制作精细规整。外壁以胭脂红为地轧道剔凤尾形卷草花卉纹，纹饰精密有致，达到了似锦铺就之感。其上绘设四个圆形开光，内以粉彩画各色花卉，枝繁叶茂，露红烟绿，玉立亭亭，极为雅致。碗内壁以青花四季花卉四组，与外壁开光内花卉图案相映成趣。碗心内绘丹桂玉兔图。图中金桂自一侧横欹而出，枝干寥寥几枝，尽点桂花，树下洞石嶙峋，花木扶疏，白兔憨态可掬栖卧其间，趣意生动，气韵清雅。底书六字篆书款，方正中和，微处尽显皇家尊贵典雅之气度。

彩瓷轧道，亦称「锦上添花」，创烧于乾隆早期，它是在督陶官唐英和景德镇工匠的不懈努力下，借鉴瓷胎画珐琅制作工艺而创造的一釉上彩新品种。它在粉彩锦地的基础上用一种状如绣针的工具拔划出细如毫芒的诸如凤凰形卷草凹纹，从凹纹上可隐约看到白胎，最后配以花卉、山水纹饰或开光等图饰，做工复杂繁琐。这一工艺把粉彩和轧道的工艺有机地结合起来，形成珠联璧合之势，工艺颇为费工，且成品率较低，传世的品种不为多见。

此碗造型为清宫制器之典范，据《清宫造办处活计清档》记载，乾隆八年（1743）十二月初九日，「传旨，着交唐英烧造……外面俱烧五彩各色地杖，花样各按时令分别吉祥花样，碗内仍照外面花样，俱要青花白地……年节用三阳开泰、上元节用五谷丰登、端阳节用艾叶灵符、七夕用鹊桥仙渡、万寿用万寿无疆、中秋节用丹桂飘香、九月九用重阳菊花之类、寻常赏花用万花献瑞……钦此。」此件胭脂红地粉彩轧道碗绘九秋玉兔图，为道光承袭乾隆所制的中秋时令用器，尽显宫廷佳节的喜庆气氛，甚为难得。

查检公私典藏，本品与北京故宫博物院藏清道光粉彩胭脂紫地轧道开光山水图碗（参见《故宫博物院藏文物珍品大系—珐琅彩·粉彩》，页242，图214），釉色一致，惟纹饰稍有差异；往届拍场中见一对清道光粉彩粉红地轧道开光花卉玉兔碗为养志堂旧藏（香港佳士得，2010年12月1日，编号3207），于2010年香港佳士得秋拍以近三百万人民币成交；另一例见2011年12月06日北京保利秋拍宫廷艺术与重要瓷器工艺品专场，编号5154，以两百五十三万元人民币成交，与拍品纹饰如出一辙，可资参照。

此碗造型为清宫制器之典范，敞口微外撇，深腹，圈足，底心书“大清嘉庆年制”六字青花篆书款。造型考究，制器严谨规范，曲线柔美饱满，一派皇家气度。碗内以青花绘“牛郎织女鹊桥相会图”，鹊鸟翻飞，祥云缭绕，牛郎织女相顾脉脉，缱绻情深，内壁对称绘四组祥云纹样，各有一只展翅鹊鸟相隔。外壁饰蓝釉轧道纹，轧道精致细密，达到了似锦铺就之感，四开光内分别绘牛郎、织女、燃香、起居四图，人物生动，鲜活灵动，场景绘制连贯细腻，开光间以祥云相隔，布局内外呼应。此对碗为道光宫廷制器的杰出代表，体量适中，造型优雅，胎质淘炼精细，釉面光润细腻，青花发色浓艳清晰，敷彩精确，设色妍丽明快，布局典雅有致，流传有序，甚为难得。

有清一代在粉彩装饰纹样上的一大特点，即为在色地上借用珐琅彩的轧道工艺或“锦上添花”图案，并常配以花鸟、山水、人物、百兽的通景画面或开光瓷画。当时清宫对官窑器开光内的纹饰主题按不同时节有严格规定，必须按照大内送来的图样与皇帝旨意而设计，不能随便改动。如乾隆八年十二月初九日太监传旨，烧造“年节用三阳开泰、上元节用五谷丰登、端阳节用艾叶灵符、七夕用鹊桥仙渡、万寿用万寿无疆、中秋节用丹桂飘香、九月九用重阳菊花之类、寻常赏花用万花献瑞，俱按时令花样烧造。”此件蓝地轧道粉彩开光人物碗，其上所绘牛郎织女鹊桥仙渡故事，即为此类粉彩碗之由来。其形制与故宫博物院藏粉彩蓝地轧道开光天河配图碗相同，为嘉庆七夕时令用器，较为少见。

看康熙帝如何玩出風格！故宮琺瑯彩瓷見端倪

【文/陳小凌】皇帝的御製品也要經過實驗試作才能登上龍台！康熙皇帝時首創的琺瑯彩瓷，就是經過皇帝諭令研創開發出精美的絕品，名垂千古。

國立故宮博物院推出「風格故事—康熙御製琺瑯彩瓷特展」，透過「皇帝實驗室的試作」和「御製風格」兩大單元，展出故宮典藏中原本收納於紫禁城景陽宮的試作品，並透過試作與成品的比較，展現清代康熙朝御製琺瑯彩瓷，從草創試作到發展成熟的轉變，發掘隱含其中的小故事。

琺瑯彩瓷屬畫琺瑯工藝下的一種，製作時以瓷胎作為基底素材，再用各色琺瑯料彩繪裝飾紋樣，經窯爐烘烤而成。由於這項工藝首創於康熙朝，成品多半以「御製」款為標記，在「御」字含有「天子的」意思下，特別能呼應製作背景中皇帝主導推動的成份，展現作品蘊含的帝王審美意趣。

因康熙皇帝喜愛西洋畫琺瑯器，進而著手研創本土新品。在「皇帝實驗室的試作」展覽單元，展出原本收納於紫禁城景陽宮的一批試作品。其中胭脂紅彩系列，是清代本土技術效法西洋金紅彩，在釉中加入「金」元素，新創而成的粉紅色系胭脂紅彩，色澤嬌嫩鮮豔，猶如女子絳唇胭脂般高貴典雅。

在「御製風格」展覽單元，則從「皇家標記」、「山花野菊」和「宮廷潮色」視角，引領民眾認識康熙御製琺瑯彩瓷的風格特色。特別在康熙朝琺瑯彩瓷眾多的裝飾花卉紋樣中，有種「藍色菊花」是經常可見的花朵小標記，穿插於具象花叢，偶而也和粉色品種一起出現，對照康熙44年皇帝題記畫家蔣廷錫〈野菊〉軸中，以「山花野菊喜清風，塞北烟光報嶺楓」歌誦出巡塞外認識的小菊花，捕捉到皇帝將旅途記憶，轉換成御製風格的有趣軼事。

風格訴說著時代精神，代表一段時間內出現且開始流行，具鮮明可識別特徵的藝術形式。在回歸日常的生活裡，到故宮尋訪康熙皇帝的風格指南，譜寫一段段充滿歲月韻味的風格故事！
