大清雍正年制款　青花一束莲大盘

瓷中青花一把莲纹，是一种固定的青花纹饰，也称“一束莲”。把莲纹，是指在青花瓷器上绘制一束用缎带扎起来的莲花、莲蓬、茨菰、浮萍和莲叶等的画面。束莲图案开端于宋，耀州窑青瓷上饰的三把束莲纹，并印有“三把莲”字样。

莲花是中国的传统纹样，青莲与“清廉”谐音，寓有高洁清廉、出污泥而不染的含义。在明代永、宣时期的青花瓷上“一把莲”成爲典型的装饰图案，听说永乐皇帝恩赐爲政清廉的大臣时，就会赐予大臣绘有“一束莲”的青花大盘。此“清廉”瓷的样式对后世影响极大，明清两代都倡导这种式样的青花盘子。

We have sought to record the changes in the condition of this piece acquired after its initial manufacture.
– The dish is in overall good condition.
– There is a burst bubble between the line borders of the central medallion and a miniscule frit to the mouth rim.
– There is kiln git and irregularity to the blue line on the exterior of the foot.
– The dish is slightly warped.
– There is scratching and surface wear on the interior.

The design on this dish is typically described as ‘lotus bouquet,’ as the majority of the flowers, pods and leaves belong to the auspicious lotus plant. However, the bouquet also includes additional auspicious plants, such as the arrow-shaped saggitaria sagittifolia, a symbol of both generosity and of food in a time of shortage, and a stalk of millet, symbolizing an abundance of grain. Dishes with this ‘lotus bouquet’ design belong to an important group of early Ming blue and white wares, together with ‘grape’ dishes, ‘melon’ dishes, and ‘dragon’ dishes. See J.A. Pope, Chinese Porcelains from the Ardebil Shrine, Washington, D.C., 1956, p. 92, where he discusses the thirty-four ‘bouquet’ dishes of varying size and with varying borders in the Ardebil Shrine Collection, showing the wide range of intensity of cobalt and the diversity of decoration. Some of these variations can be seen, ibid., on pls. 30 and 31.

These so-called ‘lotus bouquet’ dishes are characteristic of the finest blue and white wares of the Yongle reign. Some examples, like the present dish, have a classic scroll band around the inner rim, and some have a narrow wave band. A ‘lotus bouquet’ dish with scroll band was excavated from the Yongle stratum of the site of the imperial kiln at Jingdezhen in 1994, and is illustrated in Imperial Hongwu and Yongle Porcelain Excavated at Jingdezhen, Chang Foundation, Taipei, 1996, no. 40. Compare, also, two other dishes of this pattern, but of slightly larger size: one in the National Palace Museum, Taipei, (34.2 cm. diam.), illustrated in Porcelain of the National Palace Museum: Blue-and-White ware of the Ming Dynasty, Book II, Part 2, Hong Kong, 1963, pp. 146-7, pl. 59; and one in The Tianminlou Foundation, (34.7 cm. diam.), illustrated in the catalogue of the Min Chiu Society exhibition, Joined Colors, Sackler Gallery, Washington, DC, 1993, p. 78, no. 7. A similar dish of slightly larger size (41 cm. diam.) is in the Topkapi Saray, Istanbul, and is illustrated in J. Ayers and R. Krahl, Chinese Ceramics in the Topkapi Saray Museum, Istanbul, vol. II, Yuan and Ming Dynasty Porcelain, London, 1986, p. 514, no. 604 (where another one of slightly smaller size (31 cm. diam.) is noted). One with the collector’s mark of Shah Abbas, 33.8 cm. diam., is illustrated by T. Misugi in Chinese Porcelain Collections in the Near East: Topkapi and Ardebil, Hong Kong, 1981, p. 115, no. A.30, along with two examples decorated with a wave border, p. 114, nos. A.28 and A.29.

说明：本品敞口弧腹，下承圈足，盘形硕大规整，毫不变形。盘内外口沿及足胫处分别点缀卷草纹及回纹，内外壁满饰缠枝花卉，盘心绘莲花一株，搭配莲蓬、水草、茨菰，共以锦带束之。整器青花发色明艳苍妍，纹饰勾绘婉转流畅，花朵、枝叶等处均以重笔点染，以仿永宣青花铁锈斑之意。一束莲纹饰首见于宋代耀州窑，至明永宣时期，束莲图案已成为经典的瓷器纹样，颇受世人青睐，此后历代亦多有仿制，其中尤以康雍干三朝为盛，而三朝作品之中又以雍正器为最佳，此盘即为雍正御窑摹古佳作，品质卓绝，保存完好，颇为难得。附品相报告。

Inspired by the celebrated wares of the early Ming dynasty, dishes painted with this lotus bouquet motif were revived under the Yongzheng Emperor, who was keen to see historical masterpieces replicated as a reminder of the nation’s glorious past. Antiques from the Palace collection were sent to the Imperial kilns in Jingdezhen, where craftsmen were instructed to use them as standards for quality, models for designs and as inspiration for innovation.
See a Yongzheng example in the Palace Museum, Beijing, illustrated in Geng Baochang ed., Gugong bowuyuan cang Ming chu qinghua ci [Early Ming blue and white porcelain in the Palace Museum], Beijing, 2002, vol. 2, pl. 195. Five Yongle prototypes of this lotus bouquet design, in the Ardabil Shrine in Iran, are illustrated in John Alexander Pope, Chinese Porcelains from the Ardebil Shrine, Washington, D.C., 1956, pls 30 and 31.

By the Qianlong reign, the style of painting of this motif was slightly altered, becoming more formalised, and was applied on dishes of various shapes and sizes. See a Qianlong mark and period dish with this motif, in the Palace Museum, Beijing, illustrated in Geng Baochang ed., op. cit., pl. 203.

The design on this dish is a close copy of the pattern found on larger Yongle period dishes, known as ‘lotus bouquet’. An early 15th century example is illustrated by R. Krahl in Chinese Ceramics in the Topkapi Museum Istanbul, vol. II, Yuan and Ming Porcelains, London, 1986, p.514, no. 604. See, also, five similar early 15th century dishes illustrated by J. A. Pope in Chinese Porcelains from the Ardebil Shrine, Washington, 1956, pl. 30 and 31, where the author mentions that there are seventeen of these dishes in the Ardebil Shrine collection.

A similar dish painted with this elegant motif of a luxuriant lotus bouquet in the collection of the Palace Museum, Beijing, is included in Geng Baochang ed., Gugong Bowuyuan cang Ming chu qinghua ci [Early Ming blue-and-white porcelain in the Palace Museum], Beijing, 2002, vol. 2, pl. 199.

The lotus bouquet, with its beribboned cluster of lotus blooms, leaves and water weeds, first appeared on blue and white porcelain in the Yongle period and was revived in the early Qing dynasty. A Yongle dish painted with this design from the Qing court collection, but much larger in size and decorated with a border of waves, is preserved in the National Palace Museum, Taipei, and included in Pleasingly Pure and Lustrous: Porcelains from the Yongle Reign of the Ming Dynasty. Guidebook, Taipei, 2017, pp. 66-67.

The dish is painted in strong tones of cobalt blue on the interior with a bouquet of lotus flowers, seed pod and leaves, and other aquatic plants tied together with a fluttering ribbon, encircled by three concentric rings and a composite floral scroll around the cavetto, all on a bright yellow ground, below a wave band on a pale green ground. The exterior is decorated with a further floral scroll above classic scrolls on a yellow ground, below a keyfret band on a pale green ground.

– There is a fine hairline to the rim measuring approx. 3.3 cm. long.
– The exterior and interor surfaces are suffused with craquelure as is typical, and there is a glaze flake on the exterior measuring approx. 0.9 cm. wide with associtaed glaze cracks.
– There are a few other minor scratches and nicks to the glaze and enamel as can be expected.

The combination of yellow enamel and underglaze-blue cobalt on this dish is fashioned after the early Ming prototypes from the fifteenth century, while the lotus bouquet design also first appeared on porcelain during the Yongle and Xuande period, such as the Yongle blue and white dish from the J.M. Hu Collection and sold at Christie’s Hong Kong, 30 May 2012, lot 3975.

A Yongzheng-marked dish of the same design and of slightly larger size (39 cm. diam.) was sold at Christie’s New York, 19 March 2009, lot 749 . A smaller pair was sold at Christie’s Hong Kong, 31 October 2000, lot 889; another smaller one was sold at Christie’s London, 13 May 2014, lot 294.

Compare to two Qianlong-marked dishes of this pattern; one illustrated by R. Krahl, Chinese Ceramics from the Meiyintang Collection, London, 1994, vol. 2, p. 133, no. 763; the other included in the exhibition, Splendour of the Qing Dynasty, Hong Kong, 9 June – 2 August 1992, p. 275, no. 142.

本盤紋飾及配色仿自明初永樂、宣德年間景德鎮製御瓷。蓮花、蓮葉及水藻以飄帶綁束，始見於永樂一朝，見玫茵堂舊藏例，載於康蕊君，《玫茵堂中國陶瓷》，卷2，倫敦，1994年，圖版665，售於香港蘇富比2012年4月4日，編號37。此紋樣於雍正時期復現，北京故宮博物院藏兩例，錄於耿寶昌編，《故宮博物院明初青花瓷》，卷2，北京，2002年，圖版159及199。

本盤口沿內外巧飾一圈淡綠卷草，足見雍正年間瓷匠慕古求新的心思。本品以鈷青繪飾、黃釉為地，講求匠人手巧、謹控窰溫方成，本品堪稱為黃地青花典範。此盤署以黃地青花年款，目前未見有他例。仇焱之舊藏一近例，白釉底署年款，售於香港蘇富比1981年5月19日，編號583。另見一類例，釉色不及本品明艷，售於倫敦蘇富比2011年5月11日，編號213。

單是雍正年間，已有不同大小的黃地青花一把蓮紋盤。玫茵堂有相近之例，尺寸屬最大的一類，售於香港蘇富比2011年4月7日，編號74。另一例尺寸較小，圖見 John Ayers，《Chinese Ceramics. The Koger Collection》，倫敦，1985年，圖版122。

浅腹，砂底。瓷盘所饰青花纹样分为三层，盘内口沿饰海水纹一周，腹壁饰缠枝花卉十二组，内心三蓝圈内饰一束莲纹，盘外壁近口沿处饰卷草纹一周，腹部亦饰缠枝花卉十二组，近足处饰回纹一周。该盘青花色泽浓艳，局部可见“铁锈疤”，釉面肥润莹澈，充分体现永、宣“进口料”青花瓷器的特点。

元明清时代瓷中青花束莲纹，是一种固定的青花纹饰，也称“把束莲”纹。束莲纹，是指在青花瓷器上绘制一束用缎带扎起来的莲花、莲蓬和莲叶的画面。这种纹饰最早出现在北宋耀州窑中，元朝普遍用于各类青花瓷。束莲纹形式有置于水波中的“一束莲”、交错对称的“二束莲”“三分天下”的“三束莲”，以及“散莲”等多种形态。

青花一束莲的高峰期是明永宣时期，作为青花瓷的一个固定纹饰，“一束莲”因寓意清廉、高洁成为明青花瓷的主流纹饰，还深受欧洲人喜爱，在“克拉克瓷”中有相当的“一束莲”远销荷兰、比利时、德国及英格兰，是当时外销青花瓷的一个重要部分。“康雍乾”三朝盛世以后，“青花一束莲”随社会经济的凋敝而日渐式微，从嘉庆朝开始，无论胎质、器型还是画工、施釉等，各道工序的品质都较差了，因而这一时期也成为“青花一束莲”精品和普通器的分水岭。

直徑44cm、高8.5cm

敞口，弧壁圈足，底部露胎，形制規整。足部有火石紅痕跡，釉質肥腴，釉色白中閃青。盤心繪蓮花、蓮蓬、茨菇、浮萍，束以綬帶，故此紋飾有「一束蓮」之稱，寓意「五谷豐登」。內外壁分別飾纏枝四季花卉紋。青花色澤艷麗，色濃重處呈黑色銹疵。構圖疏密得當，畫意古樸典雅，為明代典型作品。

modelled after an early Ming dynasty prototype, well potted with shallow rounded sides supported on a short tapered foot, finely decorated to the interior in rich tones of cobalt simulating the ‘heaping and piling’ effect, with a central roundel enclosing a ribbon-tied bouquet of lotus blossoms and other aquatic plants, encircled by a border of composite scroll of camellia, hibiscus, pomegranate, tree peony, rose, lotus and chrysanthemum to the cavetto, all below a band of stylised cloud scroll collaring the rim, the exterior similarly painted with composite scroll of flowers, between a keyfret band at the rim and a further cloud scroll wreathing the foot, the base with a six-character reign mark within a double circle in underglaze blue

青花一束蓮大盤為圈足淺盤、白底青花。盤面中央繪一束蓮花，外圈繪連枝蓮花，盤沿繪一圈海浪紋；盤外部也是連枝蓮花紋。無款，器底無釉。圈足地方略可看到紅棕色底胎。全器充分溢顯永樂青花的釉層肥潤、色澤鮮艷特質，然釉色方面使用的是蘇麻離青的鈷藍發色。指定為重要古物。
