585 三彩天王像一對(唐)

59.5 cm.（23 3⁄8 in.）high

來源：20世紀80年代購於香港

成對，頭綰髮髻上置一展翅欲飛之鳥，戴兜鍪護頭，護耳上翻，濃眉大眼，闊口，八字鬍須，作憤怒相，神態威嚴，頸部以上天王眉毛、眼睛、鬍鬚、嘴巴與飛鳥頭部光素無釉。二者像立而視，一手叉腰，一手握拳上揚，身穿唐代明光甲，鎧甲塑造真實細膩，胸前背後均飾一對圓護，兩肩覆蓋龍首披膊，龍卷鼻張口，頭頂彎角，腰系帶，腰下有膝裙護大腿，下縛吊腿護小腿，一腿直立，一腿微曲，踏於夜叉之上，下接高臺座，其一正面刻“大”字，夜叉面露苦相，袒胸露腹，支身作掙扎狀，肌肉發達，雕塑精准有力。通體飾三彩，以綠、褐、白三色為主，釉色鮮豔明亮，流淌自然。

天王像源于佛教的護法神，多置於寺院門前或佛前，佛教傳入中原後逐步漢化，護法神的形象也逐漸演化為武士形象，被賦予了驅鬼辟邪的功用，標誌著神人同形觀念的確立。

Condition Report
The female figure with scattered minor infill touch-ups, including to the jaw, earlobes and around the collar. The monk with traces of minor restoration around the neck. Some scattered minor infill touch-ups, including to two fingers and the proper left arm. The figure is very slightly loose on the rockwork stand. Both with expected age-consistent wear.
女像見些許輕微小補，包括見於下巴處、耳垂處及領子一周幾處等。僧像頸部見輕修痕跡。另見些許輕微小補，包括兩指處及左臂處等。立像與石座連接處略微鬆動。一對均見正常年久磨損。

A STANDING SOAPSTONE FIGURE OF ZHANG GUOLAO
18TH CENTURY
The Immortal is finely carved with a long beard and a smiling expression and wears a scholar’s cap above pendulous ears. His long flowing robes are incised with dragon roundels, Xi characters and fruiting peach. He holds a large bamboo drum in his hands. Traces of pigment remain. The stained hexagonal soapstone stand is incised with rectangular cartouches enclosing stylised waves, lotus, clouds and a dragon and is further embelished to one side with a pierced jade florette.
