此尊释迦采用12世纪帕拉造像的样式,莲座下宽上窄,上下各铸刻连珠纹一圈,莲台上方衬錾刻花卉纹之软垫,中间采用对称排列的束腰仰覆双层莲瓣,莲瓣立体,刻画精致,整体留存了12世纪帕拉造像莲座的韵味。释迦双腿结金刚跏跌坐于莲台之上,双腿间生动的刻画了袈裟铺垫于腿下的状态,右手触地,左手禅定,肩宽胸挺气势上拔,开脸、髪髻、耳垂均带有明显的帕拉韵味,而其面部五官样式,胸腹部比例过度及背部线条等则更符合乾隆仿古的时代特征。

帕拉造像是指东北印度的帕拉王朝所造的佛像。公元8世纪帕拉王朝建立于印度东北地区,它的范围包含今日印度的白哈尔地区、孟加拉国国和缅甸一部分的地区。它是一个高度佛教化的国家,也是印度佛教最后的守护国,12世纪中叶被回教消灭,印度本土佛教也宣告断绝。其作品是在「后笈多」的基础上加上更多的密教元素,由于做工精湛、肢体表现丰富、神态神秘而活泼,予人极高的价值感,对尼泊尔和西藏佛像有的风格有很大的影响,而且保存下来的数量很少。从清宫造办处的档案中可以看到,乾隆帝对来自西藏的法物进行仿作颇有追求。其中对于古印度,尼泊尔,早期西藏的佛像原汁原味模仿在神形两方面都有具体要求,而此尊释迦即为这一风格之代表。
